Andrew on Pownce

So I got a Pownce invite at the start of the week (thanks rappy) and I’ve been using it on and off all week.

Overall I like it but I can’t help but feel like it’s only half finished, the site is incredibly slow and the amount of javascript is so painful and not exactly required for it to work, digg the same problem, the javascript cripples firefox if you have too many tabs open.

It needs so optimization and an api, if they can get those two out then it will rock, I’ve not even bothered with the AIR client. For me Twitter has a better overall experience with sms support and so many choices of interaction in the form of desktop clients and widgets, the only thing twitter lacks is the private post option.

Anyway, add me as a friend: http://pownce.com/andrewnez

  1. I believe Adobe payed $$ for them to use the AIR framework. As soon as the API is released i’m writing a cocoa app.

The only reason one might think twitter is better than Pownce is because twitter is more evolved and has had time to figure out what works for them. But i think the superior UI and design by Daniel Burka will come through in the end.

As for SMS support… you’re right, Pownce has got nothing.

  2. Oh really, the adobe thing is very interesting.. I like the idea of AIR, but compared to an actual cocoa app it just can’t compare, we love the mac-ness!

I’m currently re-writing tickets as we speak (http://teabass.com/tickets-launched/) which could be placed someone inbetween the two, plus it will have a RESTful API

    :P

  3. I think it’s totally hot that it’s written by a girl. Yay for programmers, especially the female kind. The hype around it is annoying though.

  5. Agreed on original post. If I hadn’t read the hype on Pownce, I would have spent even less time using it. Neat concept, but needs some attention to the ‘make-it-usable-for-non-pownce-devs’ aspect…
