Feeddit Reaches 3 Million Hits
Last week Feeddit reached a pretty big milestone, 3,000,000+ hits on the main feed after 6 months of providing a free, bigger and direct linked rss feed for Digg.
To be honest I had completely forgot about the little rails app that could after it’s launch, it worked so well and asked for so little in return, ever day providing me with direct links to the stories on digg front page. It’s just sat there working away for the past 6 months, I simply forgot that other people use it too.
I don’t think I could ever go back to living without it!
Other People Love it too
Feeddit has received quite a lot of blog love, from other hardcore diggers too, here are some places I’ve noticed it posted:
- http://qureyoon.blogspot.com/2008/03/digg-less-feed.html
- http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/feeddit-a-rss-feed-for-hardcore-diggers/
- http://schlerplotti.typepad.com/quantworks/2007/12/attention-econo.html
And the pure feedy goodness of it has made it quite a utility as well people are using it together with other services like this:
- http://www.rssmeme.com/source/2627/
If you see anywhere else that has blogged about it, mashed it up or you blog about it yourself let me know and I’ll add you to the list.
Future Features
Since it’s doing so well maybe it could do with a bit more love, I might add some support for categories soon.
The other thing I’m thinking about doing is releasing the source code under an open source license, taking suggestions, patches and features on the open source branch (prolly hosted with google code) and rolling the best bits back into Feeddit.com.
I can’t really see a downside to doing it so once I get some free time to clean up the code I’ll get on it.
Show some Feeddit love

Taking on too many projects is the bane of my life at the moment

Congrats andrew, time to monetize it

Congratz on the hits! I’d be interested in seeing the source code behind this rails app, hopefully learn a thing or two.
Keep up the good work!

It’s pretty simple really, only one controller action, I’ve learnt a lot since I wrote it, it’s still on rails 1.1 I think at the moment as well!

It is cool. I love the way the links take you straight to the articles rather than the digg page. Don’t suppose you could knock up something similar for Newspond?

I asked if they had any kind of api that I could use to make a similar thing but alas no, might have to look into using the more manual hpricot method, only problem with that is that if they changed their page design it will kill it and I don’t want to be having to babysit it too often.

Awesome but to be honest I went off Digg when it expanded beyond tech because there were simply too many stories for me to go through!

Info overload rules my life…
Feeddit needs to be “filterable” (if thats a real word).
So I only get stories for “iPhone” for example.
And as @TomK32 says: Time to roll in the cash! RSS Adsense integration or something…

I had left Digg because of it’s own feed, but feedit maes it faster and easier to use by helping me discard what I do not want to read and saving clicks. Thanks for sharing.
